Situated on the top of Mount Barbaro, in the province of Trapani, Segesta was founded by Emili people. Especially renowned for its Temple and Theatre which have typical characteristics of Greek architecture.
‘Castelvetrano’ hystorical centre is 3 km far from the Esperidi Park Hotel *S. Exquisite churches such as The Mother Church and Purgatorio Church are worth a visit, as well as Palazzo Pignatelli noble building, and The Public Museum, famous for the elegant bronze statue of Ephebe of Selinunte, one of the few original greek discovery. San Domenico Church, situated in Regina Margherita Square, is known as Cappella Sistina of Sicily, rich in decoration thanks to the frescoes by the famous Antonino Ferraro. Finally, the little Church of the Trinity of Delia: intersting representation of Arab Norman architecture.
Castelvetrano is not to be missed for its food and wine: here the famous ‘Black bread’ is produced: it comes out of a singular mixing of two kinds of corn grown in Castelvetrano and Campobello di Mazara areas. Unmissable the characteristic ‘Nocellara del Belice’ olives, a particularly juicy variety low in acidity.
28 km from Esperidi Park Hotel – In the ancient city of Gibellina, destroyed from the 1968’s earthquake, Alberto Burri realized an enormous monument that appears exactly in the point where ruins were. ‘Cretto di Burri’, with 10 hectares extension, it is one of the most extensive contemporary artworks in the world.
The road from Trapani to Marsala provides fantastic views of Saltworks (80 km from Esperidi): panels of mirror like water form an irregular and multicoloured scenes, the profile of a windmill reminds the past when it was one of the main means of pumping the water and grinding the salt. During the summer, when the salt is ready to be collected, the view is more suggestive. It’s the most extended lagoon of Sicily, becoming from 1984 a Natural Reserve, characterized from shallow ad salty water, ideal condition for saltworks. The Lagoon includes 4 islands: the most important Mothia, and then Isola Grande, Schola and Santa Maria.
95 km far from the hotel, an untouched and incontamined strip of land between Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani: it’s the Zingaro Reserve, famous as one of the most beautiful coasts of Italy, with 1650 hectares surface and a coastal zone of 7 km. Zingaro Reserve enchants for its strong beauty, for intense colours in all seasons, for white coves nestled in the torquoise sea.
15 km far from Trapani and 90 km from the Esperidi Park Hotel, Erice with its panoramic position is one of the most famous destination in Sicily. It was originally populated by Elimi people that built a temple dedicated to Venus, love and fertility goddess. The medieval centre is still untouched, perfectly integrated with the surrounding nature.
Precious and uncommon example of a pure nature the Egadi Islands: Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo. Not too far from Trapani, at the far end of western Sicily, they offer an enchanted landscape of white sands and indented coastlines. Not less important the culinary aspect, in which tradition tuna fish stands out as absolute protagonist in all well-known recipes.
Moving towards Agrigento, 60 km from the Esperidi, on the Capobianco promontory stand the ruins of the Greek city Eraclea Minoa, an extraordinary location on a hillside overlooking the sea. The vast beach of Capobianco with its white sand is surrounded by a pine grove, that’s why Eraclea Minoa is one of the most beautiful beaches in the province of Agrigento in addition to the archeological site.
Scala dei Turchi is a rocky cliff overlooking the sea along the coast of Realmonte that offers a fantastic and suggestive landscape thanks to the chromatic contrast between the blue sea and the pure white colour of the staircase. A real magnificence of the nature 80 km far from Castelvetrano. Cant’t miss it!
The valley of the temples in Agrigento is one of the typical archeological sites of the classical Greek period, it has a 1300 hectares area with an extraordinary state of preservation of the ancient Akragas city. The valley, immersed in rural landscape of rare beauty, was inserted onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.
